Why your health business needs a copywriter

Working for a healthcare or medical brand can be very rewarding. You’re part of a plan to help people live better, and that’s amazing.

But sometimes the reams of medical information and documentation, the strict regulations and the industry jargon can make your brand feel distant to potential customers. Even worse, they might feel overwhelmed.

Patients don’t want encyclopaedia-style explanations. They want to understand what might help them, quickly, clearly, and with a human touch.

That’s exactly where a specialist health copywriter comes in.

Why should you hire a medical copywriter?

Writing about health isn’t like writing about shoes, software or heating systems. The stakes are higher, and the information needs to be completely accurate and trustworthy.

A medical copywriter like myself can bridge the gap between your expertise and your audience’s needs, making sure your message lands with clarity, warmth, and authority. It’s about understanding who you’re writing for, pre-empting their worries and concerns and helping them to make sense of their condition and/or treatment.

Here are some reasons why you might choose to hire a health copywriter:

They can translate complex jargon

Over the years, I’ve formed a skill for taking very complex medical information and turning it into plain English that anyone can understand, no matter their background or education level.

They build trust and credibility

Asking someone to purchase a new medication or treatment plan is very different to convincing them to buy a sofa. Their health is their life, and any purchasing decisions they make will be deeply personal. Clear and compassionate copy can help your brand to feel reliable and safe. If they don’t trust you, they won’t go ahead with their purchase.

They make your brand stand out

‘Not another erectile dysfunction pill’. Yep, there are TONS of brands selling these, so it can be difficult to stand out and get noticed. Professional copy ensures your voice is consistent, confident, and memorable within a competitive health and wellness market.

They understand compliance

There are plenty of advertising standards and industry regulations to understand when writing medical copy. A specialist health copywriter will understand how to write persuasive and empathetic copy while also sticking to these guidelines.

I have plenty of experience with PAGB, having written according to their guidelines many times in the past and had copy approved.

They save you time

You and your team are busy delivering care or running your business. A copywriter handles the words so you can focus on the work you’re best at.

They can weave in some SEO best practices

As long as search engines and AI are around, people will search their symptoms, conditions and treatments. SEO-savvy copywriters will craft content that ranks and resonates, guiding potential clients to your site naturally, while also remaining helpful when they get there.

Be clear and compassionate with a health copywriter

Great health copy isn’t about fluffy phrasing or stuffing keywords for Google’s sake.

It’s about choosing every word with care, knowing who’s reading, what they’re worried about, and helping them make sense of it all.

What can a health copywriter actually do for you?

Type of copyWhy it’s necessary
Website landing pagesSpell out your services, demonstrating to the reader how you can help and why you’re the right choice, gently nudging them towards booking a consultation.
Blog posts and articlesHelp to educate your audience in their symptoms, condition or treatment. This type of health content is essential for building trust and showcasing yourself as an industry leader.
Patient guides/FAQsStraight-forward answers to common questions, easing anxiety and avoiding confusion.
Email newslettersKeep in touch with both past and future customers, letting them know you’re there if they need you.
Social media copy & patient storiesHumanise your brand and share real-world impact

Here’s an example of why health copy matters:

In health copywriting, it’s always about showing the reader that you understand their problems and pain points, and that you can provide a solution. But they don’t want a brand that talks jargon or simply offers cold solutions. They want compassion, warmth and someone who understands them.

Our clinic offers cognitive behavioural therapy for anxiety and depression. It’s backed by evidence-based protocols and delivered by trained professionals in a therapeutic setting.

Sure, it does what it says on the tin, but will this make the user feel happy or daunted?

Instead try:

“Feel like worry is taking over? Or that some days, you feel so down, it’s a struggle to go about your normal day? Our friendly CBT specialists can help you to think clearly and calmly with our personal therapy sessions.”

The message is the same, but in the latter example, you’re showing empathy at what the user is feeling and demonstrating how you can help, with warmth and reassurance.

How much does it cost to hire a health copywriter?

The cost of a medical copywriter can depend on what you need, whether it’s a quick service page rewrite or a complete website overhaul.

To give you an idea, a blog post could cost anywhere from £100 to £150, and a website page could range from £80 to £200 depending on the word count.

I don’t offer generic packages for my health copywriting, because no two brands are the same, and often, an out-of-the-box approach won’t work for you.

Should I hire someone with a background in medical copywriting?

Preferably, the copywriter you choose should have some experience writing within the health and medical field. It’s a specialist area, full of sensitive topics, regulatory considerations, and complex terminology, and someone who understands these quirks can make all the difference. Experience in reading and understanding medical journals may be important here too, especially if the copy is being submitted through PAGB.

However, I’d suggest you are flexible with who you hire. Not all medical copywriters can possibly have written about all health conditions, medications or treatments, so some flexibility will be necessary.

I’ve written for a range of health clients in the past, from contraceptive pill brands to providers of respiratory devices, like inhalers. Most health copywriters will be fast learners and have the skills to take a complex topic and make it simple.

If you want to turn complex health messaging into clear, warm, and trustworthy content that speaks to real people, you’re in the right place.

Whether you need landing page magic, blog clarity or FAQs that actually help, I’m here to help your health business shine.
